The number five has special significance for Lee Carsley and the Ricoh Arena.

The new Coventry City skipper has been handed the number five shirt on his return to the club he left in 2002.

And his kit is being sponsored this season by the Ricoh Arena to mark their fifth birthday which will be celebrated at the Sky Blues’ next home match against Derby County on Saturday, August 21.

Lee said: “I am really enjoying being back at Coventry City although there have been a great deal of changes since I left – but they are all for the better.

“The Ricoh Arena is one of the best grounds in the Championship and it wouldn’t look out of place in the Premier League.

“The facilities behind the scenes are first-class and I am not surprised it has been chosen as the Midlands venue to host football matches in the London 2012 Olympics.”

Daniel Gidney, chief executive of the Ricoh Arena, will be presented with a birthday cake before kick-off of the live televised match.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring Lee Carsley’s number five shirt and kit throughout the season as a reminder of our fifth anniversary,” he said.

“It is ironic that Derby County were Coventry City’s last opponents at Highfield Road and now they are the visitors to the Ricoh as we celebrate this milestone.

“We have come a long way in the last five years and a thriving, growing business has been established. It will be interesting to see how far we go in the next five years with the London 2012 Olympics and 2015 Rugby World Cup on the horizon.”
